[In your inbox is a digital invitation. When it opens balloons open up and float up across the screen. "You Are Invited" then a personal note inside that reads;]
Hey Rikki, me and my siblings are having a birthday party on the 1st. It's kind of a first for us to even have a birthday party, so that's something. Come meet my crazy family. Or just come so it looks like I have friends??
No gifts required. Drinks and food provided. Bring a friend or +1 or whoever you might like with you if you like.
[Address, date and time appear at the bottom of the note.]
Hey, I got your e-vite. I've never had a birthday party before, either. You know I'll be there, of course! I'd love to meet the family I've heard so much about.
( She's definitely not coming without a gift, though. That's for sure. He's her best friend here, how can she show up at his birthday party completely empty-handed? So now she's got to...figure that out, but at least she's got a bit of time. )
My dad was always working so much and I didn't really have friends until a few years ago... It never really seemed all that important. We wouldn't have had the money for something like that, anyway, back then. Maybe I'll have my first one next year. I've already had a birthday this year.
What's that matter? I'm sure they'll be fine. How bad can it be? It's a party, mate.
I'm telling Klaus. He'll want to do another party, I'm sure of it. lol. but no, seriously, I've been to a few parties for people since being here. Even dropped in on a frat party. they can be fun. Just never had one for 'myself'. And this is for 7 of us. Well, 6... but still.
Oh, I'm sure they could be fun, I just don't want one of my siblings interrogating you or something. Not that they do that. lol
[Everything has been weird since the Ghosts and Klaus going missing then finding Klaus and lastly him being in the hospital again. Only, when he went to visit him he was gone. He checked his device to try and call him but it was... worst of all, deactivated.]
[Just like Five was.]
[He spent at least a day sick over the idea. He stayed at home the 5th and did nothing, too tired to bother. By the afternoon of the sixth he text Rikki. They had training today but he didn't want to do that.]
Swimming. Let's go swimming today. No training, no drama no nothing but swimming. Take my mind off things. Klaus is gone. I need the distraction.
( The series of texts surprise her, because she and Ben have a pretty set routine for the time they spend together during the week, but then she gets to the end and that Klaus is gone and her heart sinks for Ben. When he says gone, she can only assume that he means sent back and because he's the sibling to whom Ben is closest, as far as she can tell, that breaks her heart for him. )
Oh, Ben...I'm so sorry... Yeah, of course. I'll leave work a little early and come round your house, yeah?
Diego had helped him get his car running a bit better than it had been. Even with the gloom and doom hanging over the world for a while there, they still managed to get the car running properly. And in good time too. Roof rack added, he strapped down a few things to it and left the trunk for luggage or bags. Plus scuba gear, because that was important.
Parked outside her place he jogged up to her door, glad the storm was over with. That everything went back to normal. A message was sent, since it was nearly 3 Am in the morning. Hope you are up, because I am. I'm outside. Don't make me ghost inside and wake you.
He wanted to get on the road as soon as possible, so they could get to the coast early. So he stood at the door and he bounced on toes a moment, smiling to himself. This was going to be good. This was going to leave everything behind. It was friday. Thanksgiving had been the day before, and lord was he thankful everyone was still here.
The plan was to go across and up a ways, to the Highway 1 and run down California and cut over to Disneyland. They'd planned it a while ago and he was getting more and more excited to go since the fall of end times.
Being especially excited about going on their road trip isn't making waking up any easier for Rikki. She's exhausted when she drags herself out of bed four hours after going to sleep to shower and get dressed and she's sleepily sitting at the table, sipping coffee alone in the dark while the rest of her roommates are sleeping by the time her phone buzzes in her pocket with the text from Ben.
I'm up, mate, ghost in, though. I'm finishing my coffee but I don't want to take the mug with me in the car. I'm nearly done, but maybe you can get my bag packed into the car while I finish? Five minutes and I'm ready to go, I promise.
Note that she doesn't say she's awake, just that she's up. She is up. Awake? The jury is still out.
Being in the car is going to be the least fun part, especially when she's this tired, but she's excited about the stops they'll be making along the way and the items from his bucket list that she wants him to be able to cross off as they go. That's the bit she's looking forward to. Disneyland will be fun, too, she reckons and she'd never have been able to go any other way.
When he got the text back he smiled. He noticed she said nothing about being awake, but that was okay. He knew it was damn early. But he wanted to get to the coast with day light to it, and it was at least a 8 hour trip to the coast.
Ghosting he slipped through the door and headed towards her. At a table, sipping coffee. He came over and reached out to fluff at her hair a moment, just a soft touch before moving to lean his hands on the edge of the table, whispering to her. "You can sleep in the car. Bring a pillow."
He smiled at that, and drew back again. "Where's you bag?" He'd get it packed for her, like she asked.
The touch is enough to make her stomach flutter pleasantly but then when he leans to whisper to her, her cheeks go pink in the darkness and she smiles around her mug, nodding. He'll find when he gets to her bag in her room that she's already got a pillow sitting on top of it because she absolutely plans to sleep in the car for a little bit longer.
"On my bed," she yawns, pointing to the only bedroom door downstairs that's still open. Her whole body shudders at the end of the yawn and she has to set down the mug for a moment so that she doesn't spill any. Then, Rikki moans a soft little whimper of discomfort. One more yawn overtakes her and she picks up her mug again to finish drinking it.
"Let me know when you're ready," she calls quietly in sort of a stage whisper, emptying the mug and crossing her arms on the table to lay her head down on them, her eyes fluttering shut again.
Hey, beautiful. Coming back from Australia after a rescue and saw some crafts and they reminded me of you and just wanted to say hi and see how you are doing.
( That's...a new nickname. One that makes her blush, admittedly, and duck her head even though nobody else can see her right now in her room, but new. )
You went to Australia without me? Without your Australian roommate? :( I'm good, how was your trip?
Yeah, tell me about it. I reckon you, me, and Carol ought get together soon and decompress.
You know why I was late getting to you? Somehow, that place stuck me into one of Peter's memories. It was so weird...I still can't figure out how it happened. In any case, it was really disorienting and I dunno how long that actually was, so that's why. I'm sorry I wasn't able to get there sooner. I might've been more help if I could've done.

Thanks.
I figured you wouldn't mind going for a swim a bit early.
We could train a bit on the beach too if you like

Is this for sure? It's not like when he just sort of went missing?

I went to put out a fire that was raging across an area of the land outside one of the cities and threatening some habitats.
I didn't have time to really let any0one know when I heard what was going on.

If I'd known sooner, I'd have seen if Rupert could open a portal for me, so I could try to help.
I'm glad you were able to help.
